It was an honour and a privilege to undertake this client commission of reimagining a departed father`s signet ring.
To know that from her father’s original gold has come a stunning dress ring, which will be worn by my client with both grace and significance.
Being entrusted to redesign a client’s treasured heirloom - to sympathetically create a beautiful, wearable dress ring that retains the deep emotional connection my client has to her father`s original signet ring - brings even greater significance and meaning to my work at the bench.
In doing so, it is wonderful to know that my client now carries her father`s presence not solely in her heart but against her skin — a constant physical reminder of the enduring bond between a father and his daughter.

Daddy`s Ring
This very substantial gold signet ring was as heavy as it was large and had belonged to my client’s late father.
As if reading my mind, my client said, "Daddy was very tall and very good looking - a rugby player in his youth - and the most gentle, the most kind-hearted man in the world."
I smiled, feeling the weight of this impressive ring in the palm of my hand as my client continued, "Along with a great sense of humour, he also had impeccable style.... His signet ring means so much to me but, of course, I could never wear it. It`s far too large! I was really rather hoping that we could use Daddy`s gold to make a very special gemstone dress ring that I could wear."
Inherited jewellery often holds significant sentimental value, as was certainly the case with the signet ring my client had brought to the studio.
Would I be able to take the substantial amount of gold in her father’s signet ring and create a stunning, feminine gemstone ring, whilst retaining the deep emotional connection that my client felt for the original piece?
It was time to begin the design process with my client.
